Long introduces bill to close treatment gap for newborns

Statement

Congressman Billy Long (MO-07) introduced H.R. 2641, the Promoting Life-Saving New Therapies for Neonates Act, in the House today. This legislation will help close the treatment gap for newborns that is crucial for making sure they have access to the best care possible from day one.

"For far too long newborns have lacked quality care that is imperative to their health," said Rep. Billy Long. "Each year thousands of newborns are admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit. This bill would help those children get the care they need and close the treatment gap that continues to grow with this age group. Parents have enough to worry about after having a child, and worrying about their child getting the necessary care they need and deserve shouldn't be one of those things."

This bill will close the treatment gap for newborns by incentivizing research for effective drugs and will make sure that the new drugs target the most critical needs of children.
